You will be picked up from your hotel. You will have a guided tour through the center of the city of Cusco, visiting colonial places such as the Plaza de Armas (Main Square), the Cathedral, the Temple of the Sun Qoricancha, and then we go out to visit the archaeological places such as Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay, to then return to the city.

1.- The Catedral of Cusco:

We start the tour visiting the Cathedral of Cusco, the church of the Sagrada Familia, and the church of Triunfo.

2.- The Qoricancha

Following we visit the Qoricancha temple, the highest expression of Inca architecture and engineering. The Temple of the Sun or Qoricancha, is also currently called the Convent of Santo Domingo.

3.- Sacsayhuaman fortress.-

The impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman is strategically built on a hill from where you can see all the city of Cusco. It is famous for its huge carved stones, some of which are 9 meters or 30 feet high and more than 350 tons weight.

4.- Qenqo archaeological place

Located to four kilometers northeast from the city of Cusco, it includes the archaeological groups of big Q’enqo and small Q’enqo.

Etymologically, it means labyrinth or zigzag, served a purely religious function, being on the outside a semicircular amphitheater with trapezoidal niches and a monolith that simulates a puma which is approximately six meters.

5.- Puka pukara the red fortress

Puka pukara means “red fortress”, because the calcareous stones with which it is built have acquired the reddish coloration of the terrain, very abundant in iron. It is alleged that he had the function of guarding Tambomach’ay, an important palace in the Inkario. But that, in turn, for its architectural layout and the existence of fountains, aqueducts and multiple enclosures, was a “tambo” that is, a collective shelter that offered inn and food to travelers, as well as the entourage that was to accompany to the Inka in his retirement in Tambomach’ay.

6.- Tambomachay

Tambomachay, is located about 8 kms to the north of Cusco and very close to the ruins of Puka Pukara, it is an archaeological site that was dedicated to the worship of water and so that the head of the Inca Empire could rest. This place is also called Baños del Inca. It consists of a series of aqueducts, canals and several waterfalls that run along the rocks. The surprising thing about this is that from a main waterfall, the Incas created 2 secondary waterfalls, which are exactly the same. That is, if some one put two empty bottles to get water in each waterfall, the two are filled at the same time.

It has a church made of adobes, typical of the religious architecture of the town, inside the church are kept canvases of the Cusqueña School.

Moray biological laboratory:

It is located about 7 km southwest of Maras; It is unique archaeological group in its kind in the region. These are gigantic natural depressions or pits on the surface of the land that were used to build terraces or agricultural platforms with their respective irrigation channels. It is therefore a prototype of a greenhouse or biological experimental station that is quite advanced for its time. that the American man of antiquity inherits to the humanity a 60% of the vegetable products that he consumes, that the Andean man consumes a thousand and a half of diverse varieties of potatoes, a hundred and a half of corn, and many other products.

Maras salts mines

located to the northwest of the town of Maras are about 3000 small wells with an average area of about 5 m², during the dry season are filled or “irrigated” every 3 days with salt water that emanates from a natural spring located in the part of the wells so that when the water evaporates, the salt contained in it gradually solidifies, later the salt is hit and thus granulated; the salt will then be bagged in plastic bags and sent to the markets of the region; Today that salt is being iodized, which is why its consumption is not harmful.
